About Valerie

I’m a multi-lingual Afro-Caribbean immigrant summa cum laude Ivy League-educated multi-disciplinary artist and former perfectionist (straight A’s from 4th grade through college, always thinking and believing there was one right way to do life).
I wanted to be an actress and TV host, but my family wasn't having that so I hid my career aspirations for a long time. I also didn’t personally know nor did I see many examples of women who looked like me doing what I wanted to do.
I moved to L.A. and pursued my interests anyway. I fell into retail and temping office jobs to pay the bills. I fell out of love with the entertainment industry and worked full-time as an admin professional in corporate environments. I did that for several years.
And I hated it. There was so much I disliked about corporate culture, my job, the 9 to 5 ordeal. Despite that, I advocated for myself and got a promotion while making key changes within my job to make the experience more bearable (like negotiating down to a 30-hour week instead of 40).
During that time I revved up my passion for teaching dance and re-ignited a huge desire to be a life coach.
Several years ago, I resigned from office life and started my life coaching biz. At the same time, I built a parallel career teaching dance residencies in K-12 schools as well as facilitating movement workshops and teaching fitness classes (Cardio Dance, Zumba, strength training) for adults.
I also co-created a position as a DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) facilitator within arts education, which adds a whole ‘nother flavor to my coaching.
I used to hate my job(s) and my life.
Today I cherish what I do.
